Miller Pacheco has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of a Brazilian woman who died violently in a flat in central Cork on New Year’s Day.
Pacheco was brought before a special session of Cork District Court and arrested with the murder of Bruna Fonseca, 28, on January 1st in Cork’s Liberty Street.

Murder Of Bruna Fonseca
Emergency services were called to an apartment on Liberty Street in the city around 6:30 a.m. local time, where they found Fonseca “unresponsive”. She was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter and is believed to have died under violent circumstances.
A post-mortem was carried out to determine the cause of Fonseca’s death, but on Sunday evening the Gardaí said the results would not be released for operational reasons.
“Division crime scene officers continue to investigate the sealed crime scene,” the officers added.
Ms. Fonseca is originally from Brazil but has lived in Ireland for some time. She worked as a contract cleaner at Mercy University Hospital Cork.
Miller Pacheco Arrested
Det Garda Padraig Harrington of Bridewell Garda Station presented evidence of the arrest, charge, and reprimand of Mr. Pacheco, whose address was given as Liberty Street, Cork. Detective Garda Harrington told the court that he charged Pacheco with the help of a Portuguese interpreter and Pacheco did not respond to the charge when it was presented to him after a warning.
Advising that Mr. Pacheco could not apply to the District Court for bail on a murder charge, Sergeant Pat Lyons applied again to Cork District Court for remand on 9 January.
Defense attorney Aoife Buttimer said she agreed to the detention. She called for Mr. Pacheco to receive all appropriate medical attention while he is being held in Cork Prison.
Judge John King ordered Mr. Pacheco to appear again in Cork District Court and ordered that he receive all appropriate medical treatment.
Ms. Buttimer also asked for legal advice and said her client had a low income and was now imprisoned with no opportunity to earn an income.
Judge King granted him free legal aid. Pacheco, dressed in a black sweatshirt and sweatpants, spoke to a Portuguese interpreter only to confirm his identity during the brief court hearing.
