Miftah Ismail No Longer Promises Petrol Price Increases
Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Tuesday denied rumors of a further rise in petrol prices.
The finance minister said in a tweet that he did not discuss oil prices during the pre-budget seminar. He said the news channels that broadcast these tickers were doing their viewers a disservice.
“There will be no price increase today and there is no summary or plan for the price increase,” the minister said in his tweet.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also took to Twitter and denied rumors of a possible price hike. The minister added that there is no shortage of oil products in the country.
Rumors abounded on social media all day that the government would announce another big hike in oil product prices before midnight.

It is worth mentioning here that the government increased the price of petroleum products by 30 rupees per liter on Friday. The increase came as a surprise, as the government had decided a few days earlier to leave the prices for petroleum products unchanged in order to “maximize the burden on consumers”.
The coalition government has increased the price of petroleum products by 60 Rupees per liter since May 27. Currently, the price of gasoline is Rs. 209.86/-, diesel is Rs. 204.15/-, kerosene oil is Rs. 181.94/-, and light diesel is Rs. 178.31/-.
