McDonald Fellowships 2021 Details
Great opportunity for researchers from low and middle-income countries. McDonald’s 2021 Young Scientist Scholarships are required for applications.
The McDonald Fellowship makes it easier for compound sclerosis researchers from low- and middle-income countries to work at a research facility outside their own country.
Until 2021, they are open to requests for virtual or local missions to overcome the travel restrictions imposed by COVID-19. During the visitor to the virtual project, the employees expand their experience or carry out parts of joint research projects.

Following the award, McDonald Fellowships expects applicants to be able to leverage newly developed networks and expertise and continue to conduct research on MS and/or patient care in low and middle-income countries.
Eligible Projects to Apply
The requirements for the 2021 McDonald Scholarship for Applicants have changed. Due to travel restrictions, the board allows alternative ways to conduct research projects, allowing flexibility in how the grant is used and when and where the project would take place.
The scholarships encourage potential applicants to think creatively about possible solutions together with their proposed hosts.
A project can be:
- In a research institute/hospital abroad, if the trip allows it (as in previous years)
- At a research institute/hospital in your home country
- A virtual project, in whole or in part with the support of the host institution*

Benefits offered
The scholarship consists of a two-year grant of approximately £30,000 per year to cover travel and living expenses, plus an additional £2,000 per year contribution to the host institution.
By 2021, McDonald’s grants are more flexible with how funds are used when virtual projects are proposed.
