Who is Lotfi Zadeh? Biography, Wiki
Lotfi Zadeh was a mathematician, computer scientist, electrical engineer, artificial intelligence researcher, and professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. Zadeh is known for developing the innovative mathematical framework known as “fuzzy logic”.
He is remembered with Google Doodle on November 30th when he introduced “Fuzzy Sets,” the groundbreaking article that introduced the concept of fuzzy logic in 1964. Since then, the concept has been applied to various technologies, from the Japanese subway system to anti-skid algorithms, ensuring that cars are safe on the move.
Born on February 4, 1921, in Baku, Azerbaijan (part of the emerging Soviet Socialist Republic), Zadeh moved with his family to his father’s homeland, Iran, at the age of 10. He then graduated from the University of Tehran before continuing his postgraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Zadeh’s fuzzy logic structure laid the foundation for several modern everyday technologies, including facial recognition, air conditioning, washing machines, auto transmissions, weather forecasting, stock trading, and rice cookers, explains UC Berkeley.
As per Google, Zadeh’s famous article has become one of the most cited articles in the history of information science, having been cited nearly 100,000 times by scientists to date.
More than 33,000 patents and applications with “Fuzzy” in their title are listed in the US patent database with tens of thousands of applications in the field ranging from camera focus systems to automatic train controls and other industrial technologies.

Lotfi Zadeh was married to his wife Fay Zadeh and the couple had two children, Stella and Norman Zada. His wife has written a book, My Life and Travels with the Father of Fuzzy Logic, about their travels and experiences together, visiting “exotic places” and meeting interesting people from around the world.
What Was Lotfi Zadeh’s Cause Of Death?
Zadeh died on 6th September 2017, at the age of 96 at his Berkeley, California home. The cause of his death was not disclosed at the time. He is buried in the First Alley of Honor in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he was born. “Highly respected people” attended his funeral, including Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
A month before his death, the University of Tehran published a false report that Zadeh had died but withdrew it a few days later.
