As per the Swedish media, Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who drew the Prophet Muhammad, died in a traffic accident.
Vilks was placed under police protection for his 2007 cartoon after several death threats, including from Al-Qaeda.

Lars Vilks Killed in Car Accident
As per the Swedish news agency TT, police confirmed Vilks was in the car with two police officers on Sunday when he was involved in a truck accident.
All three were reportedly killed and the driver of the truck injured.
Police did not name Vilks among the victims, but the artist’s partner confirmed his death to Dagens Nyheter newspaper.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
Al Qaeda put a bounty of $100,000 (£73,692) on its head in response to the toss.

The drawing, published in 2007, insulted many Muslims who thought the visual depiction of the Prophet as blasphemous. This happened a year after a Danish newspaper published caricatures of the Prophet.
What Police Have Investigated Up Till Now?
It was still unclear how the clash came about, he said in a police statement, but initially, there was no indication of further involvement.
“It is investigated like any other traffic accident. Because two police officers were involved, the investigation was entrusted to a special department of the prosecution,” a police spokesman told AFP news agency, adding that there was no suspicion of a criminal activity.
The police car Vilks was in was traveling at high speed, as per the local media.
A witness told Aftonbladet newspaper that Vilks’ car lost control and was approaching its side of the highway at high speed. The truck in front did not have time to swerve, then collided with a loud bang at “incredible speed,” he told the newspaper.
After the accident, a major fire broke out and several emergency vehicles rushed to the scene.
