KP Panel Calls for Teacher Hiring, School Reforms

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Standing Committee on Primary and Secondary Education has urged immediate teacher hiring to address shortages in schools.

Led by Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, the committee emphasized raising community schoolteachers’ salaries to meet minimum wage standards. Provincial Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai and senior officials discussed extending school leader contracts and ensuring quality education.

Staff transfers will now occur after 1.5 years, starting with three districts. A scholarship program targeting low-literacy areas aims to boost enrollment, while plans to expand the Accelerated Learning Programme are underway, pending resolution of existing issues.

Delays in school construction in Charsadda and Swat were flagged, with officials directed to expedite pending projects and secure necessary approvals.
