Kirsten Dunst Talks About The ‘Extreme’ Pay Gap In ‘Spider-Man’
Kirsten Dunst said the pay gap between her and her co-star Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man’s first superhero trilogy was ‘extreme’.
Speaking to The Independent, Dunst said the compensation she received for playing Spider-Man’s love interest, Mary Jane Watson, was significantly less than that of the character of the same name, Maguire, despite the bill. highest for the role.
“The pay gap between Spider-Man and me was very extreme. I didn’t even think about it. I was like, ‘Oh yeah, Tobey [Maguire] is playing Spider-Man,'” Dunst said.

This isn’t the first time Dunst has spoken openly about the pay gap in Hollywood, telling Variety in 2017, “Since I was young I’ve been like, ‘Oh wow, I get a lot of money for the Spider movies. -Man. But anyway, the men paid more.”

While it’s unclear how much Dunst earned for his role as MJ, Variety previously reported that Maguire received $4 million for the first film before settling for $17.5 million for the sequel.
