King Charles Praises The ‘Solidarity’ Of The British Public in His First Christmas Message
King Charles, in his first Christmas message as monarch, hailed the “sincere solidarity” of the people of recession-hit Britain, which is grappling with a deepening cost of living crisis.
Addressing the country from the chapel at Windsor Castle, where his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was buried in September, the 74-year-old also thanked people for the “love and concern” expressed after his death became.
Standing next to a sparkling Christmas tree, the Sovereign noted in the recorded royal message, broadcast annually at 15:00 GMT, that this is “an especially poignant moment for all of us who have lost a loved one”.
He then addressed the impact of the country’s mounting economic woes as decades of high inflation eat away at revenues and intensified wage strikes in the public and private sectors.
“I especially want to pay tribute to all the wonderfully kind people who are so generous in donating food or donations or… their time to support those who need it most,” said Charles, wearing a blue suit.
“Our churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, and gurdwaras have come together again to feed the hungry and give them love and support all year round.”
The king also commended the charities for their “extraordinary work in the most difficult of circumstances”.
He added: “Such sincere solidarity is the most inspiring expression of loving our neighbor as ourselves.”
Charles ascended the throne when Elizabeth died on September 8 after a record-breaking seven-decade reign.
He also served as head of state for 14 Commonwealth countries including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
His coronation will take place on May 6th next year and Buckingham Palace promises to reflect the storied traditions and modern role of the monarchy.
In his first Christmas message, Charles said he and his late mother shared “a belief in each human being’s extraordinary capacity to touch the lives of others with kindness and compassion.”
“It’s the essence of our community and the foundation of our society,” he added, praising public sector workers, from the armed forces to first responders and teachers.
