Kim Kardashian Robbery: The Trial Of Suspects Ordered
Twelve people are on trial in France for their role in the 2016 theft of jewelry and diamonds at gunpoint from celebrity Kim Kardashian, sources familiar with the matter told AFP.
In the biggest French heist in 20 years to target one person, Kardashian was robbed of approximately six million euros ($7 million) worth of jewelry while staying at a luxury residence during Paris Fashion Week.
Among the suspects arrested four months later in Paris and southern France is Aomar Ait Khedache, known as “old Omar”, who is believed to be the leader of the gang.
Two investigating judges have ordered that the twelve suspects be tried before a jury – which in France is reserved for the most serious crimes – for armed robbery, kidnapping, and belonging to a criminal gang.
On the night of October 2-2, 2016, several men, some of whom pretended to be police officers, entered the hotel where Kardashian, then 36, was staying.
Two of the intruders had guns pointed at their temples and one, Kardashian later told detectives, addressed her in English “with a very strong French accent” and asked her to put back a ring she was wearing.
They then handcuffed her, gagged her, and took her to the bathroom.
Meanwhile, three men stood guard at the reception, one was waiting at the wheel of an escape vehicle.
In addition to the ring, which sported a nearly flawless 18.88-carat diamond, the group seized several other golds and diamond jewelry.
One of the alleged robbers, Yunice Abbas, while fleeing by bicycle, dropped a cross studded with diamonds worth 30,000 euros, which was found by a passerby a few hours later.

The thieves lost a few other items during their escape, but most of the bounty was never found and was reportedly sold in Belgium.
Ten members of the gang, which the police describe as ‘outdated’, are charged with their role in the robbery, while another suspect is charged with being part of the gang for another crime.
Another is on trial for violating gun laws in a case involving the Kardashian robbery.
