Katie Meyer, goaltender and captain of the Stanford women’s soccer team, has died, the university said.
According to the university, his death occurred in an on-campus dorm, but a cause of death was not given.
Meyer, a senior majoring in International Relations and History, made two key saves in a penalty shootout to help Stanford win the 2019 national championship.
“Friends describe her as a larger than life team player in all of her endeavors, from choosing an academic discipline, which she says has changed the way I see the world and the very important challenges we face together, to… Overcoming the passion that brought her to the Cardinal women’s soccer program and women’s sports in general,” Stanford said in a statement.

The goaltender helped her school win the 2019 NCAA women’s soccer championship.
Stanford University goaltender and captain Katie Meyer have died at the age of 22, the school confirmed Wednesday.
The school said Meyer was found dead in an on-campus apartment building and the cause of death has not yet been released.

Her Professional Career
The school said Katie Meyer is an International Relations student and captain and goaltender on the Stanford football team.
“Katie was extraordinarily committed to everything and everyone in her world,” Susie Brubaker-Cole, deputy provost for student affairs and Bernard Muir’s athletic director, said in a statement.
“Katie has been a shining light to so many locally and in our community,” the statement continued.
