Karachi’s Class 10 Students Breathe Easier as Exam Form Deadline Extended

Karachi: If you’re a Class 10 student in Karachi scrambling to submit your board exam forms, here’s some good news—the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has hit the pause button on the deadline. Students now have until 10 February 2025 to submit their online forms for both science and general groups, and there’s no extra charge for those who meet the new cutoff.

Government schools aren’t being left behind. Schools run by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Labour Department can also submit forms online without penalties starting 31 January, right up to the 10 February deadline.

But here’s the catch: after 10 February, the board will start charging late fees. From 11 February to 10 March 2025, students who miss the boat will have to cough up anywhere between Rs500 to Rs2,500, depending on how late they are.

For private candidates—like repeaters who didn’t pass their 9th-grade exams in 2024 or earlier, or those looking to retake subjects for better marks—the process is a bit different. They’ll need to grab their forms the old-school way: from branches of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Askari Commercial Bank, or United Bank (UBL), or from special counters set up at the BSEK office.

While the board hasn’t explained why the deadline was pushed, the move has sparked relief. “A lot of families are juggling fees, paperwork, and daily expenses,” shared a teacher at a government school in Orangi Town. “This extra time takes some weight off their shoulders.”

Students, meanwhile, are keeping it real. “Sure, two extra weeks for forms won’t make trigonometry easier,” laughed Ayesha, a Class 10 student in Gulshan. “But at least I won’t have to beg my brother to help me upload documents at midnight!”

With exam stress already sky-high, small gestures like deadline extensions can ease the load for thousands of students and families. Now, if only someone could extend the study hours too…
