Jay Boughton was shot and killed by another driver in a car accident on the 6th of July.
There was an arrest in the fatal shooting of one driver by another nearly two months ago on highway 169 in Plymouth, authorities announced Thursday.
A 33-year-old man from Chicago is being held in Decatur, Illinois. On suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of 56-year-old Jay Boughton, who was shot and killed on July 6 on South Highway.
Although he was identified by authorities at a press conference, the Star Tribune generally does not identify suspects until they are charged.

What Was The Incident?
Boughton was shot in the head around 10 p.m. when driving on the highway. 169 near Rockford Road at the eastern end of Plymouth.
Then his vehicle went through a fence and crashed into an apartment complex parking lot in the 3900 blocks of N, Lancaster Lane, where his 15-year-old son Harrison gave him CPR.
In the moments leading up to the shooting, traffic surveillance video showed the gunner’s truck traveling west on Interstate 694 near N.
Snelling Avenue in Arden Hills before exiting the freeway heading south 169, then stopped to the left of Boughton’s vehicle and walked up and down just before the shooting.
The suspect’s vehicle, a late-model Chevrolet Suburban, was found on July 23. Police did not initially find out where the truck was found or what led to it.
However, Fadden said Thursday that “the location of this vehicle certainly provided our detectives with information to move in one direction and get to where we are today.”
Who Are The Suspects To Be Arrested?
Police Chief Erik Fadden said the suspect was arrested on 24th August and detained in Decatur, central Illinois, where he is awaiting extradition to Hennepin County.
Court records did not reveal that he had been charged until Thursday afternoon.
Fadden declined to provide details on how detectives were able to locate the suspect, saying the investigation was “very active”.
“It was really a needle in the haystack that our detectives, the public, especially our detectives, never stopped digging, working and knocking on doors and reviewing video after video,” he said.
“And after all, you have that little pause every now and then, and that leads to something else, and you go out and knock on more doors.”
