Instagram “Threads” Reaches 100 Million Users in 5 Days
Threads, a text extension for Instagram, launched on 5th July and according to the latest report, 100 million users signed up in the first five days.
Meta’s intention with this platform is obviously to bring Twitter users into its own ecosystem. However, it still lacks some essential features such as a timeline and a robust search function, and a major downside is the impossibility of deleting one’s profile without losing Instagram posts at the same time.
The report comes from Quiver Quantitative, where the data is collected in a semi-manual process. While the number of users signing up to explore the hype continues to grow, the exact number of people leaving the platform is beyond the reach of any algorithm.
Currently, user feeds mostly consist of influencers, brands, and celebrities, which can cause users to miss updates from friends and family.

In a recent development, Twitter CEO Elon Musk responded to a tweet discussing Mark Zuckerberg’s involvement with Threads by saying, “Zuck is an idiot.” Aside from the billionaire’s questionable language, this interaction suggests that Twitter closely monitors its competitor’s progress.
Legal documents suggest the new platform could infringe on Twitter’s trade secrets and intellectual property. However, a Meta representative denied the allegations, saying none of the people involved in the Threads project were previously employed by Twitter.
