Hunter Blair Stanfield Arrested For Killing Family Members
According to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, Hunter Blair Stanfield was arrested Tuesday in connection with the October 2022 killings in Whispering Pines. Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd said his office learned of the deaths of Chase J. Stanfield, 39, and Gail M. Stanfield, 50, after receiving an 911 call Oct. 27.
The sheriff’s office didn’t say how the victims were killed, but Fox News reported that they were shot. After an hour-long interrogation, the authorities arrested the accused.
A Law & Crime search of Arizona court records found that multiple search warrants were executed in the weeks and months following the murders. Shepherd said the charges were brought after the full investigation.
“Sheriff Shepherd would like to thank the Gila County Attorney’s Office and the Arizona Department of Public Safety for their coordinated efforts in this investigation,” the sheriff said.
“I am grateful to the detectives who worked tirelessly on this case to follow all the leads, collect and evaluate all the evidence.”
“This was a time-consuming investigation and the detective’s commitment to the community and the judiciary is commendable.”
An October obituary for the Stanfields said they “passed away suddenly.”
“Chase and Gail are survived by their children,” “their parents,” “grandparents,” “extended family,” and many friends, according to the obituary.
After the shooting, many “devastated” friends and family paid tribute to Gail and Chase on their Facebook page.
“I am totally and devastated by this news. I can’t even imagine what the family must be going through,” a friend named Kelly said two days after the shooting.
“My heart is broken that this could happen to two of the most positive people I’ve ever had the privilege to meet. God bless their souls and their families.”
“You still made it mom. I wish I could hug them and tell them personally how proud we are of you all, but I know they can hear it,” Gail Stanfield’s daughter Ashley said in December, sharing a posthumous graduation her mother received from the Grand Canyon University received. Gail Stanfield’s Facebook page said she was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Behavior Analysis in Applied Psychology.
“Mom, not a moment goes by that I don’t miss you and haunt you. My heart breaks every day the moment I open my eyes and reality keeps crashing in like a wave,” Ashley said in February. I miss our daily conversations. I miss you and I’m chasing hugs. There are so many wonderful things I would like to tell you about. I miss you. I love you”.
Gail announced in June 2018 that she and Chase were “marrying” and tied the knot in October of that year.
He tagged her husband on Facebook two days before the shooting, sharing his latest post: a viral video of NFL players playing but speaking in children’s voices.
