The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to host the 19th edition of the Liwa Date Festival. The festival will be held from July 17th to 30th in the city of Liwa in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi.

It is organized by the Committee for Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals – Abu Dhabi and Emirates Heritage Club, with the support of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of the Presidential Court.

How To Register

  • In order to participate in the festival, interested parties must register and submit their applications through the festival’s mobile application.
  • The application contains all the necessary information, including terms and conditions, updates, deadlines and dates to be determined by the organizing committee.
  • When registering, participants must provide documents proving ownership of agricultural land.
  • It is important to respect the deadlines and regulations as registrations are only accepted on the first day of the festival between 8 am and 3 pm.

Eligibility Criteria For Applicants

  • The festival is open to anyone wishing to showcase their agricultural achievements and contribute to the preservation of the Emirati heritage.
  • Each person may compete in a maximum of two categories.
  • Those who are disqualified in one category can still compete in others, including the Al Dhafra and Liwa elite rounds.
  • Entrants must submit plants grown on their own farms or family gardens.
  • The jury will visit the farms or houses of the winners.

Competitions And Prizes

The Liwa Date Festival features a wide range of competitions with 293 prizes worth AED8.3 million up for grabs.

In keeping with the Year of Sustainable Development, the festival features 23 main competitions. These include competitions for the best dates, fruit, model farms, local fruit baskets, heritage models, and various cultural and heritage events.

The Best Dates competition includes a number of varieties including Khalas, Fardh, Khenaizi, Buma’an, Shishi, the largest date groups, and Khalas Al-Ain. Fruit contests also include categories like mangoes, lemons, and figs.

Winner Criteria And Judging Procedure

  • Entries will be weighed and ranked by weight, with the heaviest date group taking first place.
  • In addition to the weight factor, each individual’s submission will be judged against specific criteria set by the organizers.
  • The jury will inspect and evaluate the winners’ farms or houses to ensure compliance with the competition rules.
