How To Protect Your Rights As An Employee in The UAE?
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is known for its strict adherence to the law, be it traffic rules, property taxes, or policies on workers’ and employers’ rights. Both the worker and the organization have the right to lodge a complaint against the other with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE).
After registering the complaint, the Ministry will resolve it, but if this is not the case, the case will go to court. And in this case, an employee is obliged to follow the next 4 steps according to the “Ministerial Decision No. 47 of 2022 on the Resolution of Labor Disputes and Complaints Procedure”.
- According to recent labor laws, workers in the UAE must submit any complaint against their employer to the court within 14 days from the date the case was referred to the court.
- Workers are also reminded that they are prohibited from seeking employment at another company without first obtaining a temporary work permit from the ministry.
- In the event of termination of the employment relationship between the employee and the employer, the employee must submit an application for the cancellation of his original work permit within 14 days of the final judgment in the labor proceedings.
- During the employment record process, employees are encouraged to apply for a temporary work permit from a new employer, except for those who have been reported absent from their current employer.
However, if the work complaint results in the employee’s resignation, his work permit will be revoked after 6 months from the day the case was referred to the court.

UAE labor law states that a person filing a labor claim in court must provide a brief summary of the issue, evidence from both parties, and comments from the labor department.
The court then sets a date for the case within three days of receiving the application and notifies both parties. The law mentions that no one can assert their rights later than one year after the problem has arisen.
In addition, if the claim is less than AED 100,000, the worker or his family will not have to pay court costs throughout the process.
