The Impact of Instagram on Your iPhone’s Battery Life
Apple’s most recent iPhone models have been plagued by notable build quality concerns, but it appears that their new software, iOS 17, is introducing additional issues. iPhones running on iOS 17 are experiencing severe battery drain attributed to the Instagram app.
This report originates from YouTuber ‘iPhonedo,’ who has shared his experiences with the iPhone 14 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max running excessively hot. He attributes these overheating issues and significant battery drain to the Instagram app.
To substantiate his claims, the YouTuber conducted an experiment. He monitored the temperature of the phones while they were in idle mode and demonstrated the increase in heat as soon as he opened Instagram or Threads. These issues were consistently observed on both his iPhone 14 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max devices.
Notably, this problem seems to have emerged only after upgrading to iOS 17, the latest software release from Apple. Consequently, iPhonedo advises users who heavily rely on Instagram not to upgrade to iOS 17.
It’s essential to recognize that this issue isn’t isolated to iPhonedo alone. Numerous reports across the internet echo similar problems, and the team at Wccftech has corroborated iPhonedo’s findings. Wccftech staff members reported a drop in their iPhone’s battery health from 98% to 94% within a week of upgrading to iOS 17, a change that raises significant concerns.

iOS 17 is still in its early stages of release, and it’s conceivable that it may contain undisclosed bugs and underlying issues not immediately apparent. However, it’s worth considering that the Instagram app itself could be a contributing factor to the overheating problem experienced by iPhone 15 Pro users.
This isn’t the first instance of iPhones experiencing overheating due to software-related problems, as similar reports have emerged in the past. iPhonedo suggests a temporary solution to address this issue by activating Low Power Mode on your iPhone. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether Instagram will release app updates to address this problem in the future.
At this point, we are eagerly awaiting a response from Apple regarding these concerns.
