Friday August 13 is a great day for lefties; It is the International Left Handers Day 2021.
Why Left Handers Day is celebrated?
As per the Left-Handed Day website, the day “aims to educate the public about the pros and cons of being left-handed.” Let’s take a closer look at International Day of the Left.
What is the history of International Left Handers Day?
International Left Handers Day began with the club as an annual event on August 13, 1992, where leftists around the world celebrate its uniqueness and also draw attention to the strengths and weaknesses of the left.
This event is now celebrated around the world. More than 20 regional events across the UK mark the day, including left-to-right sports, the left hand tea party and the national area on the left, celebrating the creativity, adaptability and athletic power of the left.

When was the First Left-Handers Day launched?
The unofficial party was launched by the Left Handers Club in Great Britain in 1992 and is the only day of the year that lefties are celebrated.
Left-handed people have a hard time in a predominantly right-handed world. They struggle with dirty hands when trying to write, playing with scissors more suitable for our right-handed people and clapping repeatedly as they write on binders.
There have been times throughout history when clumsiness has been used to distinguish people from the unclean, or even from witches.
Over the years, the left’s struggle has become easier with social media, web resources, and products designed to help this community.
However, since the 1990s, lefties have had their own time, our right-handed friends are not recognized.
Show off while you can because lefties only have 24 hours to party.

What is special about left-handed person?
Like many other aspects of human behavior, discomfort is a complex trait influenced by genetics, environment, and chance.
As per the National Institutes of Health, a preference for hands develops before birth and is noticeable in infancy. Although little is known about the biological basis of laterality, it is believed that it arises from the developmental process that distinguishes the right and left sides of the body.
The right half of the brain controls the left part of the body and the left half of the brain controls the right part of the body.
Recent studies suggest that up to 40 genes contribute to laterality.
“Each of these genes is likely to have a weak effect on its own, but together they play an important role in determining hand preference,” as per the NIH.
Twin studies have found that 25% of the differences in driving ability are due to genes.
Few of the genes that affect manipulation have been identified. However, researchers have found that when a person has schizophrenia, a psychiatric disorder attributed to the PCSK6 gene, there is a greater change in right-handed people.
Another link was found through the LRRTM1 gene, which is linked to greater left-handed changes in people with dyslexia, a condition that causes reading and spelling difficulties.
The NIH says it is unclear whether these genes are related to people without these conditions.
