Google’s First Foldable Phone is Set To Compete With The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold
At the company’s I/O conference, the long-discussed Google Pixel Fold finally appeared alongside the Pixel 7a and Pixel tablet. The Pixel Fold is Google’s first foldable phone and will take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Huawei Mate X series.
Design And Presentation
In terms of design, the Pixel Fold is similar to a foldable Pixel 7, but with more curves.
The interior screen is a 7.6-inch diagonal OLED panel. It has an aspect ratio of 6:5, a resolution of 2208 x 1840 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. above. It offers up to 1000 nits of HDR brightness and a maximum brightness of 1450 nits.
The outer screen of the foldable device measures 5.8 inches, with a resolution of 1080 x 2092 and an aspect ratio of 17.4:9. The screen features a 120Hz OLED with Gorilla Glass Victus on top for greater durability than the internal screen. There’s an HDR brightness of 1200 nits and an impressive peak brightness of 1550 nits.
Internal Components And Software
The Pixel Fold is powered by the same hardware as the Pixel 7 series, the Tensor G2 chip with improved performance over its predecessor. The Titan M2 security chip is also present and you get up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM along with 512GB of UFS 3.1. There is no memory card slot for storage expansion.
The phone runs the stock version of Android 13.
Cameras
The back of the device is equipped with a triple camera. The main camera offers 48 MP resolution with a 1/2-inch sensor size, 0.8 µm pixel width, large f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS). In addition, there is a 10.8 MP ultra wide-angle camera with a 1/3-inch sensor size, a 10.8 MP telephoto lens with 5x Super Res zoom and optical zoom capability up to 20x.
The outer screen houses a 9.5 MP fixed focus camera with a pixel width of 1.22 μm and an aperture of f/2.2. There is another 8MP fixed focus snapper on the internal display. These cameras can record 1080p and 4K footage at 60 FPS.
Battery And Price
There’s a 4,821mAh battery on board that supports 30W wired charging, but unfortunately there’s no charger included in the retail box.
The Google Pixel Fold also hits the mark when it comes to the foldable price. It will start at $1799 and come in porcelain and obsidian colors. It will be available for purchase next month.
