Google Will Introduce A Powerful Competitor ChatGPT in May
The competition for leadership in AI technology is starting to intensify. Google faces challenges related to the growing popularity of AI chatbots, most notably OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
According to the New York Times, Google plans to introduce a search engine with chatbot functionality and more than 20 other AI projects to strengthen its portfolio against competitors. This follows a “Code Red” statement by Google’s top management last month to compete with ChatGPT.
Microsoft’s recent partnership with OpenAI and plans to integrate ChatGPT with Bing add to Google’s challenges.

As a result, Google continues to develop its chatbot search engine with the participation of founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Company executives consulted the founders for advice on how to compete against growing competition.
The chatbot demo will prioritize accuracy, security, and fighting misinformation. The Times reported on several Google AI projects in the works, including an image generation tool, a product prototyping app, and a TikTok-like green screen mode for YouTube.
But despite growing competition concerns, Google is cautiously moving ahead with the release of AI technologies and improving its product approval processes, including fairness and ethics reviews. The company plans to present its upcoming projects at the I/O conference in May.
This move shows that Google recognizes the growth of ChatGPT and always wants to stay ahead of the trend. CEO Sundar Pichai said Google is preparing to present “completely new experiences for users, developers and businesses”.
But that comes at a cost as Google has come under fire for laying off more than 12,000 employees.
The CEO wrote in a note to employees:
I believe in the great opportunity that lies ahead through the strength of our mission, the value of our products and services, and our early investments in AI. In order to fully grasp it, we must make some difficult choices.
