Who is Gary Francis Poste? Biography, Wiki
The Case Breakers volunteer investigation team identified Gary Francis Poste as a potential new suspect in the search for the Zodiac Killer, the serial killer who terrorized the San Francisco Bay area in the late 1960s.
Due to the cryptic letters and numbers the killer sent to authorities and the San Francisco Chronicle at the time, the case has long fascinated true criminalists.
It has been the subject of numerous books, documentaries, television shows, and movies, the most famous of which was the David Fincher dramatization starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Gary Francis Poste’s Age
He was between 75 and 85 years old at the time of his death.
Murder of Cheri Jo Bates
The group called The Case Breakers told Fox News that the unidentified serial killer was Gary Francis Poste, who died in 2018.
The Case Breakers also believe Poste killed 18-year-old Cheri Jo Bates on 31st October 1966 in Riverside hundreds of miles from the San Francisco area where the infamous murders occurred.
Bates’s murder took place years before the five murders, probably committed by the Zodiac Killer, who bragged about her actions in encrypted notes to police and the media.
The Case Breakers posted a photo of Poste showing him with a scar on his forehead that can be seen in the sketches of the elusive killer.
What Police Have Investigated Up Till Now?
Former Army counterintelligence Jen Bucholtz told Fox that the group had deciphered messages strongly suggesting that Poste is the Zodiac Killer, including one in which Poste’s full name was removed to convey an entirely different message.
“So you have to know Gary’s full name to decipher these anagrams. I don’t think there is any other way for anyone to find out,” she told the point of sale.
As per the Fox, Bates was found dead in an alley on the Riverside City College campus after her father reported her missing. A year after her murder, the police received a letter asking them to investigate the Zodiac killer.
In 2016, detectives allegedly received a typed letter from someone claiming that they had written the last note and that it was a “sick joke”.
The Riverside Police Cold Affairs Unit told Fox not to believe that the Zodiac killer murdered Bates in 1966.
Despite claims made by Riverside police against Fox, The Case Breakers received a note from the FBI from Riverside police in 1975 saying that Bates was one of the Zodiac victims.
The group noted several other similarities between Poste and the killer. In Bates’s case, detectives allegedly discovered a heel on a military boot that matched Poste’s shoe size and type.
Additionally, Poste was an Air Force veteran who received medical treatment for a gun-related incident at a hospital 15 minutes after Bate’s death.
In a statement, The Case Breakers said that a “whistleblower-turned-whistleblower” informed the team of the latest developments in which a team of volunteers finds additional crime scenes that may be related to the zodiac killer.
“The defector claims to have escaped from the criminal ‘gang’ of the zodiac that roamed the mountains for decades. Now in his 50’s, he says he’s embarrassed and angry at the same time. He groomed me to become a killing machine,” the statement said.
The Case Breakers identified the Fox whistleblower as someone named Wil, who allegedly claimed to have seen Poste bury the murder weapons in the woods.
The Case Breakers said they were given a secluded place to dig up weapons in hopes of solving the decades-long mystery.
