Who is Jackie Johnson of Georgia, US? Biography, Wiki

Jackie Johnson is a former Georgia attorney. She was accused of breaking her oath and obstructing a police officer in investigating the murder of Ahmaud Arbery.

Arbery, a black racer, was shot dead by two white men who were chasing him in a truck.

The attack was filmed by a third white man driving behind them in another truck.

Former DA Jackie Johnson’s Age

Her age isn’t unclear yet.

Ahmaud Arbery’s Killed

Arbery was killed on February 23, 2020, after a white father and son, Greg and Travis McMichael, armed themselves and chased the 25-year-old black man in a pickup truck after spotting him outside his neighborhood in the coastal city of Braunschweig.

A neighbor, William ‘Roddie’ Bryan, joined the chase and filmed Travis McMichael on his cell phone shooting Arbery up close with a shotgun.

The McMichales said they believed Arbery was a robber and shot him after attacking Travis McMichael with his fists.

The police did not charge any of them immediately after the shooting. McMichaels and Bryan were out for more than two months before the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the case. All three were charged with murder in May 2020 and will be tried in the fall.

Greg McMichael had worked as an investigator in Johnson’s office and left a message on his cell phone after the shooting.

Jackie Johnson Accused of Criminal Charges

Former Brunswick Judicial Circuit Prosecutor Jackie Johnson is accused of favoring retired police officer Greg McMichael, 65, charged with murder, who worked for her as an investigator.

The grand jury indictment states that Johnson recommended the appointment of a prosecutor from another district to handle the case, without disclosing that she had previously asked that prosecutor to help with the Arbery investigation.

Johnson is also accused of improperly blocking the arrest of Travis McMichael, Greg’s son.

The McMichaels chased and shot Arbery (25) in his truck on February 23, 2020, in Braunschweig.

The attack was filmed by a third man, William ‘Roddie’ Bryan, who was driving behind them in another truck.

Travis McMichael shot Arbery three times with a shotgun.

Johnson was the prosecutor at the time of the murder. Although he excluded himself from serving the case as a prosecutor, he took several steps in the grand jury indictment that delayed the arrests of McMichaels and Bryan.

Police Investigation

The grand jury said Johnson did not treat Arbery and his family fairly and with dignity.

If he is convicted of a crime against the oath of an official, Johnson faces a prison sentence of one to five years.

After Barnhill opened the case, he defended the behavior of McMichaels and Bryan and wrote to Glynn County Police that the men had a “strong probable reason” to hunt down and detain Arbery, a “robbery suspect”.

The indictment also claims that Johnson knowingly and deliberately interfered with the legitimate actions of two Glynn County police officers “by ordering that Travis McMichael not be detained.”

If she is convicted of the crime, Johnson faces a prison sentence of up to one year.
