Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood Meets with Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs

Pakistan and Tajikistan agreed on Tuesday to accelerate the conclusion of various bilateral agreements.

In addition, Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) for the further institutionalization of cooperation in various areas.

This is the 5th round of bilateral political consultations (BPC) between Pakistan and Tajikistan. Co-Chair of Foreign Minister Sohail Mahmood with First Deputy Foreign Minister Khusrav Noziri in virtual mode.

Both sides discussed the full range of bilateral relations in the areas of politics, security, business and trade, science and technology, education, culture and connectivity, as well as cooperation in international and regional forums, a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned here.

The Foreign Minister welcomed the increasing pace of mutual cooperation over the past three decades. He stressed the importance of strengthening multi-dimensional bilateral cooperation. As part of a strategic partnership for mutual peace, progress, and prosperity.

The Foreign Minister expressed deep concern about the growing challenge of COVID-19 amid the third wave.

He emphasized international cooperation and solidarity to effectively address the challenges of the pandemic and to take joint action.

He stressed the importance of regular political dialogue. As well as parliamentary and high-level interactions to deepen mutual cooperation and ensure regular follow-up.

It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Pakistan-Tajikistan Government Commission and the Joint Working Group on Education, Science and Technology in good time. The Foreign Minister highlighted the government’s socio-economic agenda and the shift in focus from geopolitics to geo-economics.

In addition, the government intends to capitalize on Pakistan’s immense regional connectivity potential through the development of the Pakistani Economic Corridor (CPEC) in China.

In addition, the shortest possible route from Central Asia to the Arabian Sea is to be provided through Pakistani seaports.
