FIA warns Pakistanis abroad against widespread, offensive videos and social media

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has always been committed to fighting diverse and organized crimes such as immigration, combating corruption, cybercrime, human trafficking, and money laundering. This time, the FIA has notified Pakistanis abroad to stop their crimes on social media, such as spreading fake news on social media that smear Pakistan’s name and position in the world. Any violation on social networks will result in sanctions.

The FIA has warned that if someone is spotted committing an offense on social media, their name may be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) and they may receive a red notification through Interpol to arrest them.

The spread of fake news on social media is tarnishing Pakistan’s position before the world and wreaking havoc in Pakistan as well. People acquire emotional and damaging traits. Even in social networks, it is not clear whether the published news is authentic or not. People are starting to spread it wildly, which is a bad move.

In addition, fake news and fake videos destroy and defame the dignity of the person. Such acts are punishable under Pakistani law. Violators can be prosecuted in Pakistan by the authorities. Therefore, criminals should think twice before posting such offensive messages.

In April, ISPR also publicly disclosed that several members of the armed forces had been defamed and false news spread on social media, an improper act of dividing the institution from society. Such acts are not accepted in Pakistan and serious attention has been paid to punishing the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the FIA has launched an investigation into moderator Sami Ibrahim for posting videos and anti-state statements on various social media platforms. You will receive a Red Notice from Interpol for being overseas and your name will also be put on the ECL list.

The FIA issued a press release advising Pakistani expatriates not to endanger the harmony and peace of Pakistan. They were also advised to read the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 (PECA) which outlines what acts may be objectionable and unlawful. All people who post on social networks must follow the instructions of the law, otherwise, strict action will be taken against them.
