Federal Govt Allocates Rs42 Bln For Scholarships, Universities, Laptops, And Educational Projects

The Treasury Department has approved the allocation of the rupees. 41.87 billion for 149 Public Sector Development (PSDP) projects under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) budget for FY2022-23.

138 of these projects are currently underway and have been awarded Rs 38,770 crore. 11 new projects were approved for budget allocation and received Rs 3.1 billion.

According to the budget document for FY2022-23 available, Rs 60 crore has been allocated to establish bilateral research and academic links with different countries.

Rs 300 crore has been allocated for university collaborations under the CPEC Universities Consortium while Rs 20 crore has been allocated for scholarships to talented students in Gwadar. Rs 200 crore has been allocated for the establishment of AJK Women’s University in Bagh, Rs 417.73 for FATA University while Rs 450 crore has been allocated to create better learning opportunities for Baluch and FATA students. Rs 100 crore has been set aside for bursaries for UK students at leading national universities.

Rs. 200 million has been awarded to the Baluchistan Coastal Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme and Rs. 350 million has been allocated for the establishment of Gwadar University. Rs 70 million has been allocated to award scholarships to 3,000 talented Afghan students. An additional Rs 1,000 crore was awarded to award 3,000 scholarships to Afghan students under the Allama Iqbal Scholarship Scheme.

In addition, Rs 354.07 crore has been allocated to the National Center of Excellence in Big Data and Cloud Computing and Rs 185 crore to the National Center of Excellence in Cyber​​Security. An additional Rs 200 crore was awarded to the National Center of Excellence for Robotics and Automation. Rs 152 million has been earmarked for the establishment of Sea Council Chairs in all public sector universities. Rs. 1 billion has been approved for the Pakistan Higher Education Development Program (HEDPP).

Rs 400 crore is earmarked for awarding 5,000 Ph.D. scholarships while Rs 235 crore is earmarked for the Masters’s program leading to Ph.D. for Baloch students. Rs 50 million and Rs 600 million respectively have been allocated for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the MS/MPhil Abroad leading to the Ph.D. Scholarship Scheme.

Rs 300 crore and Rs 250 crore have been allocated to the Pak-UK Education Gateway and Pak-USAID Scholarship Schemes on a merit and need basis. Rs 600 million has been allocated for Phase III of the HEC-USAID Fulbright Scholarship Support Program.

Rs 400 million is earmarked for the high performance and resource centers under the Kamyab Jawan Program 2022 and Youth Olympic Games, while Rs 250 million has been allocated for the Kamyab Jawan Talent Scouting program and Youth Olympic Games.

Finally, a billion rupees were allocated to the Prime Minister’s Free Laptop Scheme.
