Breaking News: FBR’s Key Update on Income Tax Filing Deadline
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has firmly stated that there will be no extension granted for the deadline of September 30, 2023, for filing income tax returns. The FBR issued these instructions to its field formations on a recent Thursday.
In an official statement posted on X, the FBR emphasized, “Given that the deadline for filing Returns will not be extended, the FBR has directed all Inland Revenue Commissioners to assist taxpayers with their filing requirements and consider extensions on a case-by-case basis.”

In addition, the FBR has mandated that all Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Offices (MTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) must remain open and extend their working hours until 8:00 pm on Saturday, September 30, to facilitate taxpayers in making duty and tax payments.
According to reliable sources, approximately 1.7 million individuals have already submitted their tax returns, and on Wednesday alone, around 0.1 million more individuals filed their tax returns. The finance ministry has issued explicit instructions that there will be no further extensions to the deadline.
