Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign has taken a serious hit, as opening batter Fakhar Zaman has reportedly been ruled out of the tournament. He picked up an injury during the opening match against New Zealand at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi and did not travel with the squad to Dubai for the highly anticipated clash with India.
Fakhar hurt himself in the very first over while attempting to stop a boundary. Though he briefly left the field for medical treatment, he later returned and even batted in Pakistan’s chase. His efforts weren’t enough, as Pakistan fell short by 60 runs.

The injury happened when Fakhar dived to stop the ball from reaching the boundary. While he managed to save the runs, he seemed to twist his knee in the process. He was clearly in discomfort and had to step away for medical attention.
After some time off the field, he returned to continue fielding, raising hopes that the issue wasn’t too serious. Later, he came out to bat, showing resilience in a tough situation.
Reports now confirm that Fakhar will miss the rest of the tournament. His absence is a major setback for Pakistan, given his aggressive approach at the top of the order. He has been an important performer in ICC events, often setting the pace with his attacking stroke play.
