Fakhar Zaman Injured as Pakistan Opens Champions Trophy Campaign

Pakistan’s Champions Trophy defense started on a rough note as Fakhar Zaman left the field just two balls into their opener against New Zealand in Karachi.

While chasing a drive from Will Young, Zaman appeared to injure his lower back. He signaled for a replacement and walked off with the physio but returned after New Zealand lost their second wicket in the ninth over. The PCB later confirmed he was being assessed for a muscular sprain.

This follows Saim Ayub’s exit from the tournament due to an ankle injury sustained against South Africa, keeping him out until mid-March. Zaman, his replacement, had made an immediate impact with scores of 84 and 41 in his first two ODIs.

Pakistan had some good news before the match, with Haris Rauf cleared to play after recovering from a side strain. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra suffered a forehead injury in training but showed no concussion symptoms. Though he didn’t play, he was seen carrying drinks to teammates.
