The police media unit reported that Eraj Fernando, the mayor of Hambantota, was arrested for assault in Bambalapitiya.
Bambalapitiya police have launched a search to arrest Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando for assaulting two men, Newsfirst reported.
Police say a full-scale investigation has been opened into an incident in which the mayor of Hambantota brutally assaulted a man for attempted land grabbing in Colombo.

A complaint was filed with the Bambalapitiya Police Department, alleging that a group led by the mayor of Hambantota broke into the property on Kothalawala Avenue in Bambalapitiya on Tuesday evening (14) and assaulted two private security guards.
One of the injured said the group arrived in two vans and verbally assaulted them before carrying out an attack.
He lodged a complaint with the Bambalapitiya police, alleging that the attack on the two private security agents had been carried out without valid reason.
It has also been revealed that legal action has been filed on the subject property.
In 2019, Hambantota Mayor Eraj Ravindra Fernando was convicted by the Hambantota High Court for threatening a group of UNP deputies in 2014.
The mayor brandished a pistol at a group of UNP parliamentarians visiting Mattala International Airport in 2014 to conduct a fact-finding mission.
He later claimed it was a toy gun.
In addition, Hambantota Mayor Fernando has been accused of forcibly occupying land from overseas Sri Lankans.
