Emirates, UAE Introduces Free WiFi On Board

Emirates, a major Dubai-based airline, has remarkably expanded its inflight connectivity, offering passengers of all travel classes the opportunity to enjoy complimentary WiFi by joining the Emirates Skywards program.

Regardless of their Blue, Silver, Gold, or Platinum membership tier, and regardless of whether they are traveling in Economy, Premium Economy, Business, or First Class, Skywards members can now access free messaging services in the app.

Meanwhile, First Class travelers who are also Skywards members get free unlimited internet, as do Silver, Gold, and Platinum members traveling in Business Class. Platinum Skywards members enjoy free internet in all travel classes.

Emirates reported an increase in the number of passengers using its inflight connectivity, with an average of 450,000 users per month. This shows a 30% increase in usage compared to the same period last year.

Currently, almost 10% of all passengers use the free WiFi on board. On US routes, around 20% of Emirates passengers use WiFi, while on European and African routes more than 11% of all travelers use WiFi.

Free WiFi onboard has enabled an additional 30,000 Economy Class passengers to sign up for the free service each week. Emirates has already made a significant investment of more than $300 million to improve its onboard connectivity.
