Ellen Chung, her husband Jonathan Gerrish, and their one-year-old daughter Miju were found dead on a hiking trail near Yosemite National Park.
It worsens after autopsies gave no immediate clues as to the cause of death.
The family’s bodies were found Tuesday by search and rescue workers in a remote area of the Sierra National Forest near the southern arm of the Merced River, as per the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.

Ellen Chung was 31 years old and her husband Jonathan Gerrish was 45 years old.
Their Missing Report
They were reported missing on Monday evening.
Jonathan from Lancashire, who had worked for Google and Snapchat, went on an alleged day hike with his family on Sunday.
But when her babysitter came to the family home to take care of little Miju, no one opened the door and the friends were worried.
They were reported missing by a relative on Monday, and authorities found the family’s car near the Sierra National Forest fence that same day.
What Was The Incident With Their Family?
On Tuesday night, their bodies were found three kilometers from their car in an area with no phone service.
A close friend, Steve Jaffe, described the mysterious deaths as “strange and bizarre”.
“They had to understand that this wasn’t a night walk because it was hot and they had the baby with them,” she told the mirror.
“Jon was supposed to work on Mondays and he never showed up. This raised further concerns.”
“You were loved by the people. A super generous, sweet and loving couple who are dedicated to their daughter.”
It’s just a tragedy. There are people who die and die. And it’s always sad.
“This one is so weird and strange and it’s sad. You had a lot going for it.”
After finding the bodies, the police were initially unable to rule out carbon monoxide from the old mines as the cause of death.
But Sheriff Briese said the detectives had not found any disused wells in the area.
“We didn’t find any old mine shafts nearby,” he said.
“There are some mine shafts, but we cannot confirm whether this is the cause.”
What Police Have Investigated Up Till Now?
xInvestigators are still investigating various possible causes, from toxic algae reported in the nearby Merced River to noxious fumes from abandoned mines near the trail, sheriff’s spokeswoman Kristie Mitchell told CNN.
