The arrest comes amid one of the boldest challenges to Iran’s religious leaders since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with nationwide protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody for improperly wearing the “robe”.
State media showed photos of her arrest, wearing a large black headband over her face and sitting in the back of a security vehicle with barred windows.
“Recently, the agent has carried out many activities and actions to slander the Islamic Republic, incite youth to riot, and spread terror among the population,” Fars reported, referring to Ms. Afkari as the agent.
