Education Minister to Announce Final Board Exams Schedule, Schools Reopening Decision Today

The Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) will meet with Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood in the Presidency today to set the school examination schedule and discuss other important issues in Islamabad.

All education ministers, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, are members of the IPEMC, which is responsible for formulating strategies related to the education sector. The meeting will review the current COVID-19 situation in the country and decide on the reopening of educational institutions, the exam schedule, and the summer vacation.

The federal government has allowed educational institutions to resume in-person learning beginning May 24 (today) in districts where the COVID-19 positivity rate is less than 5%.

The vaccination schedule for teachers will also be discussed during the meeting.

After consultations with the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), the Federal Ministry of Education announced that teachers would primarily be vaccinated against the coronavirus in order to end the disruption in the education sector and reduce learning losses.

“The respective boards will announce the exact dates, but in principle the exams begin after June 15 with priority for grades 12 and 10, followed by 11 and 9,” Mehmood said in a tweet.

“Intermediate and matric exams will take precedence so that results can be in prior to college admission,” he said.

IPEMC members opposed the proposal to promote grades 9 and 11 students. They also gave their consent to take the exams scheduled for July.
