Duchess Camilla “delighted” to have taken on the role of Meghan Markle
Duchess Camilla replaced her daughter-in-law Meghan Markle as the National Theater patrol on Thursday, two years after the role caused significant tension between the two women.
A source close to the development told The Mirror Camilla was “more pleased to take it on now as she was disappointed not to have it on the first try”.
The comment alluded to the role being the source of tension between stepmother and stepdaughter and dates back to when Meghan was the first cast for the role.
In 2020, The Mirror revealed that Meghan’s decision to release photos from her visit to the National Theater as a patron made Camilla “very upset” as they overshadowed a major campaign of hers.
On the same day, Meghan’s photos were released, Duchess Camilla gave a landmark speech on domestic violence at the 10th anniversary of the Women of the World festival in London.
With this incident, Meghan is said to have “broke a promise” not to overshadow Camilla’s campaign.

A source also told the publication at the time, “Camilla’s work is very important to her and her decision to shed a light on the scourge of domestic violence for Women of the World’s 10th anniversary was a well-considered plan.”
“Of course, it was known that Harry and Meghan would have engagements this week, some of them private, but everyone agreed that Camilla’s speech would win out. -Unfortunately, some people had other ideas.”
