Dubai Police Warn Of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Dubai police warned of the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. In a video statement, police called CO a “silent killer” because it is colorless and odorless, making it difficult to track down.
CO is mainly found in emissions from cars, small engines, stoves, fireplaces, and other appliances. When CO accumulates indoors, it can become dangerous. To prevent CO poisoning, residents are encouraged to provide adequate ventilation in enclosed spaces, use locally approved heating and cooling equipment and install a CO detector in their homes.
People should also avoid using charcoal burners or other fuel-powered devices indoors. Meanwhile, motorists are being advised not to stay inside a parked vehicle in a closed building for too long.
Symptoms of CO poisoning include headache, dizziness, weakness, stomach pain, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion.
There have been several cases of CO poisoning in Dubai in recent years. In 2020, two domestic workers died from inhaling CO fumes after leaving a charcoal burner on overnight to heat the room.
In 2022, an Asian woman and her dog were poisoned by CO emitted by an electric generator in the Bur Dubai area.

Each year, more than 50,000 people visit the emergency department and more than 4,000 are hospitalized due to CO poisoning in the United States (US), with more than 400 documented deaths from accidental poisoning.
Dubai Police encourage residents to take the necessary precautions to avoid CO poisoning and stay safe.
