Dubai Increases Fines And Introduces New Penalties For Violations

Dubai has introduced new penalties and heavy fines for violating traffic rules to ensure proper enforcement of the rules.

Driver bans and new fines of up to AED 50,000 have reportedly been introduced to reduce traffic violations in the city. The updated sanctions have been in effect since July 6, 2023.

Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum issued Decree No. 30 of 2023 amending Decree No. 29 of 2015.

High Fines Of AED 50,000 And AED 100,000:

In Dubai, releasing an impounded vehicle for a specific reason will result in a fine of AED50,000 (US$13,600).

These include riding a motorcycle for fun on paved roads, speeding or endangering other motorists or property, running red lights, using the wrong number plate, intentionally colliding with a police car, and operating a vehicle under the age of 18.

A higher fine of AED100,000 (US$27,200) will be imposed for the release of vehicles seized after participating in road races without authorization from the authorities.

Penalties Up To AED 10,000:

A small fine of AED 10,000 (US$2,720) is required to release impounded vehicles found violating certain laws. These offenses include changes to increase speed or noise, evading the police, driving a vehicle without a license plate, and tinting the windows more than the law allows.

Vehicle Loss:

Dubai Police may impound a vehicle if the total amount of traffic fines under Dubai Traffic Laws exceeds AED 6,000 (US$1,630).

Removal Of Non-Citizens:

Driving a heavy vehicle at a red light in Dubai leads to the deportation of foreign drivers.
