Dua Bhutto Requested Divorce From PTI MPA Haleem Adil Sheikh
Dua Bhutto, the Pakistani MP from Tehreek and Insaaf, filed for divorce against Haleem Adil Sheikh, the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.
Bhutto reportedly went to the Malir District Family Court to apply for a divorce.
He has a son with Dua Bhutto, to whom he is currently married for the second time. After the birth of their son Kamil Haleem Sheikh in September 2021, Bhutto and Sheikh revealed their secret union. After the 2018 general election, Shiekh married Bhutto.
Bhutto recently spoke out against the alleged ill-treatment Haleem Adil Sheikh was subjected to by the Sindh police.
Sheikh responded to the divorce petition and expressed his deep disappointment at the situation. The head of the PTI said: “I never imagined that this would happen or that there would be an act of coercion related to a conspiracy against Dua. I had absolutely no communication with my wife during my detention.
Expressing his confusion, Sheikh said: “I was first targeted by the Sindh government who also sued me and imprisoned me. Despite all this, I didn’t stop or move. I have done nothing of the sort, everyone; the decision rests with Allah and the legal system. I can’t take the pressure, fear, or persecution.”
Shaikh said he was disappointed even though divorce and marriage are legal acts. “I am here in Lahore as part of the Azadi March,” the 56-year-old politician concluded.
Dua Bhutto was elected Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for the Sindh Provincial Assembly in 2018.
Since January 2021, Haleem Sheikh has led the provincial assembly as the opposition leader.
