After receiving his medical degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017, he first joined Henry Ford’s team as a resident in 2020.
According to his biography, he is bilingual in Polish and English.
To spend the vacation with Payan, his family flew to Jackson County, but when they got there, all they could find was his truck, with no sign of him. Nicole Keizer, a family friend, said he has not been seen or heard from since he was discharged from the hospital on 22nd December.

Patients and staff at Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson, Michigan have expressed concern after one of their doctors went missing.
On 22nd December 2022, Dr. Bolek Payan the hospital just as a terrible winter storm was about to set in.

“Thursday morning Bolek dropped his dogs off at 8 o’clock. He told us he would pick her up at 6:30, he has already fed her and will feed her again when he picks her up there at 6:30 tonight,” Keizer told News 10.
“So his truck being here without coming home to pick up the dogs would be out of character. Something happened and I don’t know what.”
A missing person investigation has now been launched out of concern for his family, although there are currently no leads.
“Obviously things have slowed down a bit with the weather and things like that, but now we’re speeding things up. We have dogs that are coming out and we are exhausting all means to ensure we can do everything we can to try and locate him,” Sergeant Steve Stowe told News 10.
