Ciaya Jordan Whetstone, a student at the University of New Orleans, was reportedly left unconscious in a hospital and pronounced dead after taking an Uber after a night out with friends during Mardi Gras.
The New Orleans Advocate reports that Ms. Whetstone, of Bamberg, South Carolina, attended the carnival parade with friend Juliet Orr on Friday before heading to a bar with other friends.

What were the details of an incident?
He spent Friday night until about 8:30 p.m. at the Metairie carnival parades. According to a friend, Whetstone left the parade and went out with friends, reports Nola.com. Around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, an Uber driver left her unconscious in the hospital.
Girlfriend Juliet Orr, who was with Whetstone on the night in question, allegedly told police that Whetstone decided to go check on her dog in the middle of the night. Whetstone called an Uber driver to take him to Gentilly’s apartment near Lakeshore Drive.
Whetstone’s roommate, Reese White, reportedly said she asked Whetstone to stay at home, but Whetstone claimed the carpool was her friend and left after checking on her dog.
Another friend, Roberto Torres, contacted Whetstone around 1:30 a.m. m. on Saturday morning, just as he got into the carpool and heard her ask, “Do you want to party?”
Whetstone told Torres he would call her back, but the outlet reports no one has heard yet.

Police Investigation Report
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office told NBC 26 that “the cause of death is still under investigation.” Police currently have the case classified as unclassified while the investigation continues.
The identity of the passenger is currently unknown. A NOPD spokesman said she was left in “private transport”, meaning an ambulance did not take her to the emergency room.
Whetstone was a psychology student and “never spoke badly of anyone,” according to another friend.
