Canada Announces Reopening Of Visa Center in Pakistan After 10 Years
The country has announced the reopening of its visa office in Pakistan after 10 years. Canada had closed its visa office in Pakistan due to the poor security situation at the time and relocated it to Abu Dhabi.
The Canadian government has reportedly allocated significant funds to build its visa office in Islamabad. This development comes amid a growing number of Canadian visa applications from Pakistan.
Pakistan has long urged Canada to reconsider its decision to move its visa center to Abu Dhabi, given the hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis living in Canada and their family members facing serious difficulties in obtaining Canadian visas.
In 2019, the Pakistani High Commissioner for Canada also requested the Canadian government to move the visa center to Pakistan, as various countries had reopened visa centers in Pakistan after an improvement in the security situation.
About ten years ago, the Canadian government decided to close its visa center in Pakistan due to the poor security situation and open two centers in Abu Dhabi and the United Kingdom (UK).
Pakistanis intending to travel to Canada have been forced to first travel to Abu Dhabi or the UK to process their visa applications. However, following the improved security situation, many countries have restarted their visa centers in Pakistan, prompting Canada to reconsider its decision as well.
