Brianna Ghey, a 16-year-old from Birchwood, tragically passed away on Saturday afternoon after being brutally attacked.
Det. Mike Evans’ superintendent confirmed that she had been stabbed multiple times and assured the community that there will be a stronger police presence in the area.
A large part of the park is still closed as investigations continue.
In an interview with the Warrington Guardian, Evans shared that police are following several leads but are especially keen on identifying two individuals spotted in the area that day.

Birchwood resident Brianna Ghey was found in a driveway with multiple stab wounds, according to the latest update from Cheshire Police.
Detective Chief Superintendent Mike Evans described the crime as “a truly horrific assault.” A Home Office autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause of her death.
DCS Evans shared details about two possible witnesses they are trying to locate. He described them as having curly black hair, stating: “The man was wearing a long dark hooded coat, and the woman had either a red plaid blanket-style coat or a distinctive black-and-lilac long coat.”
He urged anyone who was in the park between 1:30 and 4 p.m. yesterday, or who saw Brianna in the hours before her death, to come forward.
“We are also asking local residents and businesses to check their CCTV or dashcam footage for anything that could help our investigation,” he added.
“This is a truly horrific attack on a 16-year-old girl who tragically lost her life,” Evans said. “We are working tirelessly to find those responsible and have increased police presence in Culcheth to assist with the investigation. Officers are also supporting Brianna’s family during this devastating time.”
He assured the public that multiple investigative leads are being pursued and that residents will notice more police in the area as inquiries continue.
Addressing rumors, Detective Chief Inspector Adam Waller dismissed speculation about an escaped prisoner being involved. “I understand this incident has caused a lot of concern, and I’m aware of the rumors going around,” he said. “I urge people not to speculate.”
“At this time, we don’t believe there is a wider threat to the public, but if anyone feels concerned, they should speak to a local officer.”
Local MP Charlotte Nichols expressed her condolences on Facebook, stating that she had spoken with the Warrington Police Borough Commander about Brianna’s tragic death.
“If you have any information or dashcam footage from the area, even if it seems unimportant, please come forward and let the police decide,” she wrote.
“My thoughts are with Brianna’s family, and I will continue working with local police to ensure all facts are established.”
