Murder Of Elizabeth Struhs
Elizabeth suffered from type 1 diabetes and died of diabetic ketoacidosis at a home in Toowoomba on 7th January, a few days after her insulin was stopped. At a commitment hearing, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard that Elizabeth’s mother, Kerrie Struhs, believed Stevens was “appointed of God to lead her”.
“No one has ever spoken out against what Mr Stevens is saying,” Ms Struhs told police.
“No one ever wanted that.” Brotherhood members came to him for clarification on illness or disease.
What Was The Trial And Police Investigation Report?
The court also heard that Elizabeth’s father, Jason Struhs, did not believe in God’s healing power until August 2021. The religious leader was heard to say during a telephone conversation between Ms Struhs and Mr Stevens that he “didn’t withdraw her . . healing, not one iota.”
“We make it clear to Jason that this is absolutely fundamental under the gospel,” Stevens said.
“Jason hears this every week. We will keep saying that Elizabeth is healed and we will see.”
Judge Louise Shephard said Mr Stevens eventually baptized Mr Struhs while Ms Struhs was in jail for failing to request medical intervention for Elizabeth in 2019. A week before Ms Struhs was released in December 2021, the court heard Mr Stevens tell him it had begun to see a change in Mr. Struhs and that he “accepts the cure”.
When asked by Judge Shephard Thursday if he would have anything to say in court, Stevens declined and pleaded not guilty.
