On July 20, 2013, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi declared her Intermediate Degree as ‘false’ since it carried the serial number of a male candidate named Imdad Hussain.

Ayla comes from a political family. She is the granddaughter of Malik Amir Mohammad Khan of Kalabagh, who served as the governor of West Pakistan. Her sister, Sumaira Malik, is also a politician.
She is also the niece of Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari, a former President of Pakistan.

She later managed PTI’s campaign in a region where the party won all seats. As a result, Imran Khan chose her to contest the by-election for Mianwali after he decided to retain his Rawalpindi seat.
On May 10, 2013, she was injured when unidentified gunmen attacked her convoy in Mianwali.

A two-member Electoral Tribunal of the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench disqualified Ayla Malik on 30 July 2013 for submitting a forged interim diploma to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
During the hearing, the tribunal, led by Judge Mamoon Rasheed and Judge Ayesha A. Malik, ruled that she was ineligible to contest elections.
