Veteran journalist and TV presenter Arshad Sharif died of his injuries more than 30 minutes after being shot in the head and chest, according to his preliminary autopsy report on Thursday.

At the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, an eight-member medical panel performed an autopsy on Arshad Sharif’s body.

The initial autopsy report states that “gunshot wounds to the head and right lung are the cause of death.”

Dr. Muhammad Irshad Hussain, Dr. Nasreen Butt, Dr. Umar Farooq, Dr. Altaf Hussain, Dr. Muhammad Farrukh Kamal, Prof. Mumtaz AK Niazi, Prof. Lal Rehman, and Prof. SH Waqar formed the medical council of eight.

Last Sunday, Kenyan police shot and killed Sharif, a well-known TV presenter, and investigative journalist, in a “mistaken identity” incident near Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.

He was buried today at H-11 Cemetery in Islamabad. After the journalist’s funeral prayers were said at the Faisal Mosque in Islamabad under tight security, he was buried.

Many people, including members of the Journalists’ Brotherhood, attended Sharif’s eulogy.
