Apple introduces iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max with 48MP cameras, improved display and more
The iPhone Mini may be gone forever, but the Pro and Pro Max siblings will remain. As always, this is where all the updates take place, and it shows with the new Pro phones.
These phones have a new chipset, better cameras, and a pill cutout in the display that feels like a stopgap between punch and notch displays.
Here’s what Apple revealed about the two phones.
iPhone 14 Design And Display
The new pill-shaped cutout is the highlight of these new screens. It takes up less space than the famous wide notch and this was possible thanks to 30% smaller cameras.
Apple calls it Dynamic Island because it uses the black pixels around it to create dynamic effects. It can be used for notifications and also shows your apps minimized and overlaid for easy multitasking.
The screen sizes are the same as the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. You get a 6.1-inch screen on the iPhone 14 Pro and a 6.7-inch screen on the Pro Max. The rumored always-on display is finally here, and the maximum brightness has been boosted to 2000 nits. LTPO 2.0 technology allows these phones to lower their refresh rate from 120Hz to just 1Hz to improve battery efficiency.
iPhone 14 Internal Components and Software
Apple claims that the new A16 Bionic chip is 40% faster than the competition and 20% more efficient. It uses a six-core CPU and a five-core GPU with 50% more memory bandwidth and the AI engine has also been improved. Storage configurations are the same as before, including 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.
All phones boot iOS 16 out of the box, and satellite connectivity is also available for Pro models.
iPhone 14 Camera
Apple has finally updated its 12-megapixel cameras for its Pro phones. The new sensor has a resolution of 48 megapixels, but by default, it compresses all the extra detail into 12-megapixel shots. The higher resolution enables a new 2x intermediate zoom option in the camera app when cropping from the center.
There’s also a new 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera for sharper images and better macro shots. The 3x telephoto zoom lens is still there with OIS.
You get 4K video recording at 60 FPS, just like the base models, with second-generation sensor-shift stabilization for stable video and stills. The selfie camera is the same 12 MP TrueDepth camera as the cheaper iPhone 14 models with autofocus.

iPhone 14 Price And Battery
There is no information on the battery capacity, but Apple says that video playback should last around 23 hours on the iPhone 14 Pro and around 29 hours on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Phones can be charged up to 50% in just 30 minutes.
The iPhone 14 Pro starts at $999 and the Pro Max is $1099. These phones will be available in Space Black, Silver, Gold, and a new Deep Purple color option.
