Alpo Martinez is a notorious former New York drug dealer whose death has raged on social media and various online sites like AllHipHop who say he was shot and killed in Harlem, but NYPD said Tuesday afternoon.
As of 31st October 2021, authorities are still trying to confirm the identity of the dead. Videos were taken from the crime scene.
The story of Martinez, a cocaine lord of the 1980s, was told in the movie Paid in Full, although the character based on his story was named Rico. His full name is Alberto Geddis Martínez and he was one of the biggest drug dealers in New York history.

Why Drug Boss Alpo Martinez Was Killed?
Alberto (Alpo) Martínez, whose cocaine-smuggling empire stretched from New York to Washington DC at the height of the bloody drug wars three decades ago, was gunned down early Sunday morning in Harlem, an officer says superior of the police.
Police say a 55-year-old man was shot several times in the chest, chin, and arm while sitting in the driver’s seat of a Dodge Ram on West 147th Street near Frederick Douglass Boulevard.
The policeman, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to reveal the information, identified the man as Mr. Martínez, whose exploits had been immortalized in hip-hop songs and in the film by 2002 “Paid in Full”.
The local police intervened around 3:30 a.m. after receiving 911 calls and warnings from a system that detects gunshots. The man was taken to Harlem Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
He was found with an identity card named Abraham Rodríguez, police said.
His vehicle had temporary Texas license plates, police said. There were no arrests until Sunday evening.
What Police Have Investigated Up Till Now?
Sammon confirmed that a man was shot “five times” while sitting in a 2017 Dodge Ram. He was shot three times in the chest, chin, and arm.
As per Sammon, the suspect and the motive are still unknown, who added of the victim: “We are working to identify him”. When asked what name was on the victim’s ID, Sammon declined, noting that notifications were still being sent to the family.
He confirmed that the police were investigating whether the victim was Alpo Martínez.

The Source is one of the online sites that reported that Alpo Martinez was the victim and said it was a “drive-by”.
“Alpo has often been vilified as a snitch for allegedly betraying the highway code to save himself and mar his heritage on the streets,” the source wrote.
