Aidan Ingalls is a teenager. Shots on a pier on Lake Michigan sent beach night owls over flood barriers to safety on Friday afternoon when the random shootout ended with two men, including the shooter, dead and a seriously injured woman.
Ingalls shot himself after opening fire on the couple in a random attack in South Haven, Michigan, Police Chief Natalie Thompson said.
Thompson said a bullet also hit a JetSki, but the JetSki pilot was not injured.

South Haven Police Chief Natalie Thompson said the murder was accidental.
The shooting on Friday took place around 2.15 p.m., the police said. WOOD had a camera on site at the time and was scanning the beach.
Thompson said the shooting was accidental with no evidence that the victims and Ingalls knew each other.
“In general, random violence rarely occurs and it is very worrying,” Thompson said.

White sheets covered the body of Ingalls and the man he killed on South Beach Pier for hours while a woman was flown to the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
At 8:00 p.m. he was in critical condition on Friday. The police did not identify the victims.
A camera video on the beach showed a man in a white T-shirt walking to the end of the pier with a black backpack and then sitting at the foot of the lighthouse.
He then shot two people near the edge of the pier before returning to the beach with a gun in each hand, a photo showed.
Ingalls stopped halfway to the pier and shot herself, the police said.
What Police Have Investigated Up Till Now?
Ingalls was a student at Paw Paw High School in 2018 when she was arrested and pleaded guilty to instigating a shootout at the school.
Her mother referred him to the police.
Investigators said Ingalls had a target list, an arsenal of weapons, explosives and ammunition in his backpack, ready to take to school.
Investigators said that in March 2018, Ingalls’ grandfather found evidence that gun barrels had been cut in his barn. A rifle and shotgun were also missing the day before Ingalls planned to kill his school’s staff and students.
She was arrested on March 18, 2018, hours before planning a mass shooting at a school the next day.
Ingalls’ mother, Karissa Ingalls, made her the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office. She was arrested and seemed relieved, said his mother.
A Van Buren County judge dismissed prosecutors’ motion to prosecute the teen as an adult in 2018.
Ingalls was charged with ten criminal weapons and explosive charges.
The teenager would face up to 28 years in prison if tried and convicted as an adult.
Following her arrest, a therapist examining the teen said she suffered from significant mental health problems, including anxiety, depression and real social discomfort.
She was released from juvenile prison in June 2021 at the age of 19.
