Aaron Lowe was a University of Utah football player who was gunned down Sunday morning at a party at Sugar House, Salt Lake City police confirmed.
Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown Lowe of Mesquite, Texas said he was killed at the scene after being shot by one or more strangers, according to a press release. Paramedics took a second victim, a woman, in critical condition to a local hospital. The police did not reveal his name or his age.
Lowe’s death is the subject of a homicide investigation.

As per the statement, the SLCPD received a noise complaint around 10:30 p.m. Saturday about a house party in the 2200 block of South Broadmoor Street, near the mouth of Parleys Canyon. Hours later, one person called 911 to report a fight with a gun, and a second person who called 911 said they heard gunshots.
Officers who answered the call found Lowe and the second person shot dead and provided first aid to both.
Police said several people at the party may have seen the shooting but left before officers arrived. They are hoping that some of these people have photos or videos that can help resolve the matter.

“I am deeply saddened by the shooting of Aaron Lowe,” Brown said in a statement.
“This talented young man has touched the lives of many here in Salt Lake City and Texas. The Salt Lake City Police Department expresses condolences to the Lowe family and the University of Utah community. Our condolences also go to the other person who was injured in the shooting. Hope you get well soon. These studies are complex. Our detectives have worked hard to identify the suspect (s) in this case.”

Before the SLCPD revealed Lowe’s name as the victim, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed in a tweet Sunday morning that Lowe had passed and expressed his condolences to the footballer’s family.
No arrests were made. The SLCPD urges anyone with information about the case to call 801-799-3000 and contact case number 21-176828.
