Jose Nunez, his wife Maria, and their two-year-old son were found dead while staying at an Airbnb in Mexico.
Now, Jose and Maria Nunez’s family is raising funds on GoFundMe to take them home for the funeral while they wait to learn more about what happened. The cause of death has yet to be clarified.

A Family Found Dead Inside Airbnb
Bakersfield Now reported that José Núñez Jr., his wife Maria Nunez, and his son Jayden were found dead in Mexico.
They lived in an Airbnb and they were all in the same room. Local 12 reported that they fell asleep and never woke up.
The couple left four other children with the family, as per the GoFundMe. A GoFundMe started by another family member said that the surviving children were between 8 and 10 years old.
Jacobo told Bakersfield Now that the Nunez family is visiting other family members who live on the same Airbnb. The rest of the family is fine.
Jacobo told NBC 11 News that they were “a very good family.” He said that his nephew was “one of the best parents I know” and that he was always very loving. He’s also a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he said.
“He [he was] in love with his family,” Jacobo said. “He still holds her, he still holds her.”
What Police Have Investigated Up Till Now?
In a statement to Bakersfield Now, Airbnb said they were investigating what had happened and deactivating the list that the Núñez family was on. The name of the place where they were staying was not revealed.
The company said in a statement:
This is a terrible tragedy, and the hearts of our team go out to the Núñez children and the entire extended family who mourn José, María, and Jayden. Safety is at the center of everything we do at Airbnb and we thoroughly investigate what happened.
Jacobo told Bakersfield Now that an autopsy would be conducted in Mexico to determine the cause of death.
GoFundMe
A GoFundMe was created to raise funds to bring the family back to California for funeral arrangements.
Jacobo told NBC 11 News: “We want our loved ones to return to the United States. We want to know what happened to them, of course, but … for now, our focus is getting Jose, Maria, and Jayden home.”
At the time of this writing, more than 11,000 USD had been raised out of a goal of 30,000 USD.
