Punjab Govt Establishes Regulatory Body For Private Schools
The government of Punjab has decided to establish a supervisory authority for all private schools in the province.
Punjab Minister of School Education Dr. Murad Raas said the sole regulator would regulate private school fees and other matters.
“We will establish an authority for private schools to regulate tuition fees, other curricular matters, news licenses, etc.,” Raas said in a media interview on Thursday.
He also alluded to the founding of the Insaaf Academy, which will offer free online lectures and quizzes from top professors to students who cannot afford private tuition.
The idea was launched by the provincial minister last year but did not materialize at the time.
When the program was announced in October 2020, Murad had said that the Insaaf Academy would include free lectures for grades 9-12.
“The first phase includes courses in chemistry, biology, physics, computer science, and mathematics for the ninth grade. Students can also evaluate themselves using questionnaires. The entire program will also be free,” he said.

Among other things, the state school authority modernized 8,500 elementary schools.
“Almost 70% of the children dropped out of school after finishing fifth grade because there were no nearby elementary schools,” he said, hoping the trend would change.
Raas said modernizing the schools would help 107,000 children return to school in three weeks.
